Multi-omics: An integrative approach to biomedical research

With the improving sequencing landscape, it is safe to say we are on the cusp of an omics revolution. As a result, we are experiencing an increased interest in multi-omics studies – the study of more than one molecular layer in a system in tandem.

We already take advantage of multi-omics studies to aid in our understanding of how perturbations in the molecular layers influence other molecules in the system. However, the main challenge is making this type of study more routinely accessible and how we apply the findings in practice. This report covers the motivations behind embarking on such studies, highlights some of the recent success stories, and discusses methods of approaching analysis.
